Do you know the way to San Jose?

On Day 5 the fleet has split into two segments: the fleet and Strum. Strum is abeam of San Jose, California, sailing at 10 knots and proceeding south in search of the tradewinds that will signal a 90 degree right turn and a spinnaker run to Maui. Strum currently has less than 1800 nautical miles to go to the finish.

The rest of the fleet is positioned well to the northwest and sailing sothwestward at an average speed of 7 knots. Astern of Strum the other leading boats in Division A are Something Wicked which is sailing southwestward at 7 knots with less than 1900 miles to go. Red Heather is 18 miles east and abeam of Something Wicked sailing at 7 knots. Zulu is 20 miles behind Red Heather on the same heading and making 8 knots. Division A boats are close enough that they may actually be in sight of each other by the end of the day.

In Division B the leaders are Passepartout, Turicum and Seeker. They are all within 5 miles of each other and may actually be in sight of each other. All are proceeding southwestward at 7 knots. Black Watch is several miles northwest of the lead group and is sailing southwest at 5 knots.50 miles to the northwest of the Division leaders Starlight Express is heading southeast at 1.6 knots.
