Crew, family and friends are all invited to the Awards Banquet to help celebrate your adventure; there are many trophies to be awarded. There will also be toasts, stories and Hawaiian festivities. This year’s Vic-Maui Awards Banquet will again be held at the Lahaina Jodo Mission in Lahaina. Banquet tickets include a delicious dinner buffet, and entertainment from one of most popular bands on Maui, who will play a variety of great music to dine by, and to dance the night away…as we celebrate the Vic-Maui together on a warm, tropical Lahaina summer’s night. Additionally, excellent libations will be available at very reasonable prices, per our usual Hawaiian hospitality tradition! Please order your Vic-Maui Awards Banquet Tickets. Vic-Maui 2010 Pre-Race Events
**Extra FIRST AID Training Seminar now scheduled**
A repeat of the Race 2010 / Marine First Aid Course is scheduled for April 9/10. The Instructors (Declan Lawlor of the Academy of Emergency Training, and Cheryl Holmes, Medical Officer for the Vic-Maui Race) will deliver the same course (as held in January at RVYC) at the training facilities of the Academy of Emergency Training in Burnaby.
If you have crew, family or friends who would like to attend this course, please forward this information to them.
A minimum of 8 students is required to run the course. Please register early to help us ensure the course goes ahead.

The Academy of Emergency Training is offering a First Aid Training Course that provides the certification needed to meet the First Aid requirements of the Vic-Maui race. The course will provide your team with a strategy to operate within during a marine emergency. Topics are presented that are unique to the race you are about to embark on and include:
- Rescue scene assessement
- Primary survey
- Airway & obstructions
- Artificial respiration
- Cardiovascular emergencies
- CPR
- Severe bleeding
- Shock
- Bone & joint injuries
- Burns
- Environmental emergencies
- Medical emergencies
- Wound care
- Advanced protocols

Preparation Seminar
Saturday, January 9th, 2010
9:30 am – 5:00 pm
at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club
3811 Point Grey Road , Vancouver, BC
Vic-Maui skippers, race crew, shore support crew and potential race entrants will learn valuable information, ideas, and techniques to help get ready for the challenge, adventure and teamwork of the Vic-Maui 2010 race.
Guest speakers will address a number of topics, including:
- Rigging for Ocean Conditions
- Safety Compliance
- Emergency Steering
- Weather, Navigation and Tactics
- Crew Training and Experience
- Sails and Sail Maintenance
- Provisioning & Logistics
- Race/Radio Communications
The cost of the seminar includes a "Sailor's Lunch" – a buffet of soup, salad, sandwiches and dessert, along with coffee/tea.
- $50 for individuals or the first person from each boat/team
- $35 for each additional person from the same boat/team
- Pay at the door price is $65 per person

Safety at Sea Seminar – February 27 & 28, 2010
Location: South Lake Union Armory in Seattle, WA

The Sailing Foundation is hosting a US Sailing-sanctioned two-day seminar on safe boating practices and safety equipment at the South Lake Union Armory in Seattle on February 27 & 28, 2010. The seminar, designed and conducted by nationally recognized sailors, will provide novice and experienced boaters with information and skills for boat preparation, handling heavy weather, recommended safety equipment, emergencies at sea, and preparing for sailing off-shore. The program is open to cruising and racing skippers, crew and family, recreational power boaters, and commercial fishermen.
