Will Records Fall?

by Race Committee, July 20th, 2016

Today all eyes are on the Vic-Maui Elapsed Time Record, currently 9days, 2 hours, 8 minutes set in 2000 by James McDowell on the Santa Cruz 70 Grand Illusion. Valkyrie, Kinetic V, and Westerly are all lined up to beat it.

At 0400 HST (0700 PDT), The YB Tracker put Valkyrie 164 miles from the Finish Line. If Gavin Brackett and Jason Rhodes can keep the pace up, the TP-52 will finish around 5 pm in Maui and shatter the elapsed time record by over 12 hours. And Valkyrie is being pushed hard by the other TP-52, former winner David Sutcliffe's Kinetic V, who is 50 miles behind and will likely break the record herself. And make things even more exciting, Stuart Dahlgren's Santa Cruz 70 Westerly, is only 50 miles behind Kinetic, in stronger wind, and also poised to break the old record.

This will be fun to watch as the day progresses. We just hope the greeting families booked early enough flights to Maui to match this record run come to climax.
