Vic-Maui Alumni Reunion:

The Vic-Maui Alumni Reunion at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club was the place to be this past Saturday evening - good food, good drinks, good music and good company were enjoyed by all.  Sailors representing Vic-Maui's from 1968 through to 2014 were present, swapping sailing stories and firing up the class of 2016.  

Recently 'retired' volunteer Frank Shriver was publicly recognized for his long and many contributions to Vic-Maui representing the Lahaina Yacht Club.  

A big "Thank You" to Alumni Reunion organizer Barbara Picton and her band of helpers, and to the club's staff, for making it a special evening for everyone.  

Vic-Maui Fleet Performs at Swiftsure!  

• Nineteen of the twenty-two 2016 Vic-Maui boats sailed in Swiftsure this year.  Congratulations to Longboard and Valkyrie for their overall wins in their respective races.  
  
  
• In the Swiftsure Lightship Classic Race:
• Longboard took First in PHRF division 1 and the overall win
• Mountain took First in ORC division 1
• Alegria X also competed
  
  
• In the Hein Bank Race:  
• Valkyrie took First in division 1 and the overall win
• Kinetic V took Third in division 1
• CrossFire, Westerly, Kraken also competed
  
  
• In the Cape Flattery Race, 
• Equus and String Theory took Second and Third in division 1 of the Heavy Class
• Starblazer, Salient, Red Sheilla, Miles, Amiskwi, Turnagain also competed
  
  
• In the Juan de Fuca Race
• Rain Drop took Third in division 1 of the Heavy Class
• Ion, Canard also competed

• Vic-Maui, first sailed in 1965, is celebrating its Half Century in 2016.  
• The early entry deadline was September 15, 2015.  The final entry deadline was February 3, 2016.  The fleet size limit is 25 boats.

Victoria to Maui International Yacht Race

The Victoria to Maui International Yacht Race is hosted by the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club and the Lahaina Yacht Club.  First contested in 1965 and sailed every second year since 1968, Vic-Maui is the pinnacle of Pacific Northwest ocean racing. Vic-Maui starts in July off Victoria, British Columbia and finishes near Lahaina, Maui, a distance of approximately 2308 nautical miles.  

Vic-Maui challenges navigators to demonstrate their weather routing and navigational skills. Success depends on the navigator’s skill in predicting where the Pacific High pressure zone and trade winds will be, nearly a week into the future.  

The adventure includes sailing around the Pacific High and surfing downwind in the trades. The days pass quickly with the fleet surrounded by dolphins and albatross, spectacular sunrises, sunsets and brilliant starlit nights.  

Teamwork gets the boats to the finish line near Lahaina, where each arriving boat is greeted with an outstanding Hawaiian welcoming party. Family and friends meet the racers to celebrate the accomplishment with hugs, leis and mai-tais. Many crew stay to spend more time enjoying Maui with their families before heading home.
